University students improved Wikipedia's coverage of chronobiology (the study of biological clocks and daily rhythms) by editing and creating 15 articles based on peer-reviewed research, which made these pages rank highly in search results and reach millions of readers worldwide. The students spent about 9 hours each learning to read scientific papers, evaluate existing information, and write clearly for a general audience—skills that significantly improved their ability to understand and communicate complex science. This project showed that students can contribute meaningfully to public knowledge while developing real scientific skills, and that Wikipedia can be a reliable source for current scientific information when overseen by educated contributors.
