This study compared how quickly blood sugar normalizes after simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation in patients with type 1 versus type 2 diabetes, tracking 80 recipients over the first month after surgery. Glucose levels, insulin requirements, and complication rates were virtually identical between the two groups at every measured time point, despite type 2 patients being older and heavier. The results support using the same postoperative blood sugar management protocols for both types of diabetes after this transplant procedure.
