Researchers studied a shorter training program called SAY IT STRAIGHT aimed at preventing substance abuse in middle school students, involving over 1,000 5th to 8th graders. The shorter 5-day and 7-day training models showed the same significant improvement in students' assertiveness about substance use as the original 10-day model. Notably, students who received any form of training had significantly fewer alcohol and drug-related suspensions—about 14% lower—compared to those who did not receive training.
Who this helps: This benefits students by reducing substance abuse issues in schools.
